Could this be the week a ski area opens in Colorado? Maybe… Temperatures are in the teens and low 20s at night and Keystone and Arapahoe Basin are both making snow trying to be the first ski resort to open.
Keystone has a brand new snow making system. The weather looks good with cold temps and snow in forecast for Thursday. Keystone was traditionally first resort open back in the early 90s. Could history repeat itself?
Arapahoe Basin has been the first Ski Resort to open ever since they installed snow making. A-Basin benefits from higher altitude and colder temps even though its just a short 5.2 miles away. The weather forecast says it will be 17 degrees colder during the day tomorrow (Tuesday 10/8) at A-Basin than Keystone. Will Keystone’s technology over come A-Basin’s top of the world location?
These photos are from midday today, Monday 10/7. I was up at A-Basin getting my pass… I went for quick drive and took photos of Keystone as well… You can see snow on schoolmarm up top and piles on silver spoon mid mountain, not much at the base.
It’s hard to believe that ski season is right around the corner when its sunny and 64 here at River West in Silverthorne.
River West to Keystone = 9.1 miles River West to A-Basin = 14.3 miles
